Hideaways

by Lace Andersen

Sunset on the north shore of Kauai. I wanted to time the wave splashing up against the rocks for this image.

Lace Andersen is an award winning Kauai based landscape photographer. She grew up in the farm town of Templeton, California and majored in Graphic Communications. She started taking basic photography classes in 2008, and discovered her passion to create and be outdoors. The major turning point in her life was April 2012 during a family vacation to Kauai. She decided to rent her own car and spend the entire week photographing the island from sunrise to sunset. It was a life changing experience. Kauai either accepts you, or spits you right back out. Lace was lucky to be accepted by the island and relocated immediately. She has built an award winning portfolio over the past four years, and has been published numerous times. When she doesn’t have a camera in hand, you can find her hiking with friends, camping, and playing ultimate frisbee.

So beautiful this would be hanging on my wall if I took this. Great shot Lace!

So striking, the water glittering on the sand, the action of the waves, the sunset and sky, it’s gorgeous.

Looks as if you didn’t time the wave very well. Much better shot would have been a fast shutter with a crisp image of the splash.

Keith, with a fast shutter, do you really think the exposure would be long enough to capture the light/color that she/he did? Maybe if you shoot high ISO (high noise). I guess my point is , as always there are trade offs when it comes to low light situations.

Nice picture by the way. I lived on Kauai for a time, and spent time on the north shore. Beautiful wild and dangerous place.
