Abraham Lake Aurora
by David Swindler
We had a great time photographing the ice bubbles on Abraham Lake last week. Unfortunately, a snow storm covered most of the ice the day before we arrived but we managed to find a small patch of clear ice near Windy Point. We had been looking for the aurora this evening since the forecast had looked promising. After a couple of hours, the lights began to appear!
Photographed in Nordegg, Alberta.
Equipment: Canon 5D III, Nikon 14-24mm f/2.8
My name is David Swindler and I'm an outdoor photographer and travel enthusiast. After working for 10 years as a semiconductor engineer, I quit my job to follow my true passion. I'm now leading guided photography tours . I primarily do private tours in the Southwest from my base in Kanab, UT.
My foray into photography was slow and steady. I graduated with a degree in Chemical Engineering and started work as a Process Engineer for Micron Technology. My specialty was photolithography, a high-tech process of nano-scale printing to form tiny circuitry on silicon chips. As I worked with the optics and exposure equipment, I began to see many parallels with photography. Thus, photography came very easy to me since I had a good background with the basic physics. When not at work, I loved to explore the great outdoors and I wanted to share this natural beauty with others.
I also enjoy teaching others how to improve their photography and there's no better way to do it than practicing the techniques out in the field.
