Look Into My Eyes

by Susanne Kuijpers

The horseflies have beautiful eyes. However, it is not very nice when they look at you because mostly this means they want to bite you for blood. Their mouthparts are razor sharp and it is a persistent insect that can stay around you for a long time. Photographed in Zuid-Holland, The Netherlands.
Equipment: Canon EOS 700D + 100 mm f 2.8 macro lens

This is an impressive shot, but very glad to see it in a picture, not for real!

Very nice picture indeed, Suzanne. Those eyes are really menacing.

Might be small but it looks kind of scary. Great shot.

I am intimately familiar with horse flies from the receiving end. I have noticed their green eyes but never so graphically. Are those spots reflections/refractions of light or actually permanent spots. They are very quick, active and difficult to study. Thank you so much for a great shot.
