Reflection Canyon

by Rainer Grosskopf

It was the second time I hiked from Hole-in-the-rock road to Reflection Canyon – a strenuous 9 mile cross-country hike (one way). The water level of Lake Powell is as low as it hasn’t been for 8 years, and there was a good chance to see the snake-like winding canyon. I hiked with my camping equipment to spend a night at the viewpoint. I missed some clouds at sunset but nevertheless I was deeply impressed by the beauty of this canyon.
Equipment: Canon 5D Mark II

What a great shot of this canyon! Had to look twice to make it out with the water reflections in the cove.

Eileen say’s it’s sad the water is so low, I say not low enough. So Las Vegas water supply reaches critical levels, I say tough, they should have thought about that before they built a big city in a desert.
Rainer congratulations on making the effort for that long hike. I have seen this shot with less water and it does look better, perhaps another 20′ lower.
I might try it soon.

It literally takes my breath away. The composition of the light, the water lines on the rocks, the ‘sad; blue of the water..just glorious. It is just beautifully composed. Thanks for sharing your talent and effort with us, who might never see this place of beauty.
