Life Of A Tree

by Aaron Reed

A tree in a garden is never alone. Here is an image of a Japanese Maple in the Portland Japanese Garden in Portland, Oregon. This isn't THE tree but one of 10 or so Japanese Maples that can be found there. On this day we were shooting in the pouring down rain under umbrellas and struggling between getting the shot and keeping our equipment from completely fogging up. I grabbed a shot with my 16-35 that was completely fogged and it looked terrible so I switched to Lisa's 50mm that I had borrowed and took this shot at f/1.8 to draw attention to the tree and the leaves in the foreground.
Equipment: Canon 5D3, Canon 50mm f/1.8 II

Wonderful classic photo. I’ve always loved the Japanese maples, and thanks for reminding me how gorgeous they are. I used to live Long Island, NY, and had many of them, but don’t see them here in Texas very often.
