Camping under the stars

by Simone Miotto

The last autumn I went to the Lake of Thures, situated approximately at 2000 meters on Valleè Etroite - French Alps, to photograph at sunset and at dawn, during the night I lit a fire near my tent for shelter myself from the cold and I decided to potohgraph this scene.
Equipment: Nikon D300 - Nikkor AF-S 16-85 ED VR
Simone Miotto
was born in Piedmont, in Italy in 1989. I’ve always loved nature and particularly alpine environment, this love soon developed into enjoying taking photographs of natural landscapes. I began taking pictures in some ways for fun, until I bought my first camera body, a small Nikon D40x, and started learning the first technical core issues of photography. After the beginning period of emphasis, in which every subject was a good one to be photographed, I realized that the most interesting to me was just natural landscape, which is still the genre I like best, even though I don’t despise the others such as life portrait or naturalistic photography, which I’d like to approach soon. I adore taking pictures at dawn and at dusk, where the light is able to emphasize best the landscape I want to immortalize. My way of photographing is a continuing effort to improve, and I’m aware of how much there still is to discover and learn.

I love the tracers of light coming from the fire but also the way the eyes are drawn to all the sources of light in the photo – beautiful

Great capture. Original viewpoint. Is that the big dipper in the sky?

Yes Donna! On the left in the sky there is the big dipper!

Having camped all my life, I am just so drawn to this scene. Haven’t ever tried taking pictures like this at night, but I’m going to this summer! Thanks so much, I love this picture.
