Moonrise in the Superstitions

by Rick Furmanek

Ventured out to the Peralta Trailhead in the Superstition Mountains (Arizona) in anticipation of a 5 PM moonrise and 5:20 PM sunset. Was somewhat worried about the cloud cover but after a few minutes into the moonrise/sunset my apprehensions were put to rest.

We’ve backpacked in the Superstitions and they truly are desert magic as Laura (above) says. We spend a lot of time in the mountains, but there really is something about the desert, a way that one feels part of it all, which we’ve found nowhere else. Thanks for a great picture, can’t wait to show it to my husband.

This is gorgeous. I lived in phx for 20 years before moving to the east 3 years ago. I keep forgetting how beautiful the sunrises are and this photo with the moon is spectacular. Thanks for putting up a picture of home.

Thank each of you for your kind words and encouragement. This particular evening was quite special … I’m fortunate that I am able to share a bit of what I saw.

I am both honored and humbled to be included in such a wonderful website that houses what I consider to be some of the best photography found anywhere in the world.

Note that if you happen to venture to my website, the galleries are currently being updated and will be completed in two weeks.
