Stare-down

by Erez Marom

One of my declared goals when I went on the trip to Costa Rica was the red eyed tree frog, and believe me, this creature was everything I thought it would be- and more. You just can't be slimier, more colorful, cuter or more photogenic than this little pack of charm. I immidiately fell in love with it, and this is one of the first results. Since this is a wild animal and since this frog is nocturnal, the shot had to be taken using artificial light. This cute female behaved like a true model, allowing me to take several long exposures using LED torches as light-sources. We'll be shooting lots of red eyed tree frogs in my upcoming 'Macro and More' Costa Rica 2012 workshop.

My favorite perspective. Detail, colors and contrast are perfect. One of natures most beautiful and precious creatures, Thanks for sharing.

Mesmerizingly beautiful- excellent shot! It’s worth noting that the future of this an other amphibian species are in jeopardy due to Chytrid fungus and climate change. Hopefully the forecasts for their demise are premature!
