Weightlifter
by Kirk Norbury
I have named this shot “The Weightlifter” because he looks like he’s just about to lift a huge weight for the Olympics haha. This Squirrel seemed to be more friendly than the others, after a couple of hours he seemed to get used to me being there and he started to get closer and closer to me.
Equipment: Canon 7D, Canon 300mm f/2.8
Kirk Norbury
My name is Kirk Norbury and I’m a young Wildlife and Landscape Photographer from Liverpool, England. I’ve been doing wildlife photography for about 4 years now and have loved every second. I started loving wildlife since the day I was born, brought into family of farmers and countrymen being outdoors just came naturally to me! My earliest memories of nature are going out on the local marshes early in the morning with my dad to watch the geese and ducks coming in.
When I’m out with my camera I try to capture the true essence and true nature of the wildlife that live in our world and educate people everywhere on how important these incredible animals are. Every time I look down through the viewfinder I am looking into the life of the subject, I am witnessing a glimpse of their soul and their behavior which I find truly fascinating and a huge honor to be allowed access into their lives.
I have spent hours and hours watching wildlife even before I started photography and from them years of practice I have gained skills in understanding my subject and the field craft skills in being able to photograph them without disturbing them or causing stress to them. The welfare of the animal always comes first I believe so I feel learning the skills to patient and knowing how to not been seen by the subject will pay off in the long run.

I truly enjoyed this photo. Here in the N.W. we have a different breed of squirels, and I feed every one that comes up on our deck….we have a special ‘house’ feeder for them. We just love to watch them. I even have a couple of them that eats out of my hand….what a hoot that is.
