The Line

by Gerard Smith

I took this photo whilst snow shoeing around Crater Lake National Park. After camping out in a snowstorm the previous evening, I found that these great wind-formed snow cornices had formed on the trail.
Equipment: Canon 5D MKII, 17-40L lens

I am seeking to reach an emotive connection through my photography, that connects me to the area I photograph and translate that to those viewing my images. I love the wild places of the earth and some of the hardship that sometimes ensues getting there, but its that connection that I hope to embody through my work and I hope you enjoy it.

I love winter, and this just makes my love for winter grow. This is an amazing shot. It makes me wish there was snow where I am.

Questo quadro della natura dà molta senerità d’animo,
e il bianco candido della neve ti risveglia il senso dell’incontaminato

I love the fact you can see the stars. Makes it very mystical. Beautiful image.

Very nice, but I think those are snowflakes…not stars.

Thanks everyone – I think this was my favourite shot from the weekend!
Crater Lake was quiet for a little while as they had closed the road due to the snow the night before and only re opened it at lunchtime!

Love the image. Could really be a good design for a christmas card, just like Bettina said. Already feel the holiday cheers because of this image.
