The Celestial Conductor

by Nadav Bagim

A little bit about how this is done: this particular shot's bokeh was received from a back lit lemon leaf behind the mantis. Lemon leaves have small pores all over them. The back light shines through these pores, and the fact that they are outside the depth of field, causes them to appear in the shape of the lens' aperture.
Equipment: Canon EOS 60D, Canon 100mm f/2.8 Macro

Beautiful macro, all in green, so nicely done. Love the funny title, too. The sparkling light shining through the leave gives the scene the glamour of a concert hall !

Pure genious! Perfect blend of science and art.
Incredible detail. Beautifully fascinating!
I can imagine your praying mantis directing an orchestra of various insects in a children’s film. The conductor is even wearing his best tuxedo with tails!
Love it!!!
