Alvord Desert Sunrise

Early morning light at Borax Hot Springs in the Alvord Desert of Oregon. The extremely cold air temperature helped create a thick layer of hoarfrost on the grasses surrounding the hot spring. The quietness of this area was something that caught me by surprise. The only sounds I heard that morning were the occasional bubbles rising in the hot spring. This made for a very peaceful and relaxing morning.

Scott Smorra is an amateur photographer based in Portland, Oregon who primarily creates landscape images of the beautiful wilderness areas of North America. His goal is not to merely document nature in a photo journalistic style, but rather to capture the beauty, emotions and moods of nature. He views photography as an artistic medium and uses a variety of techniques both during image capture and in Photoshop to help achieve his personal vision for each image. He hopes when you view his images, you feel some of the emotions which he experiences while traveling through the wilderness. He currently uses Nikon digital SLR cameras and a variety of Nikkor lenses.
