Salticid in Red

by Simon Joubert

I found this curious little salticid spider sitting in a red flower in the Botanical gardens in Durban. They are such photogenic little creatures and in the red this little one was superb.

“Superb” is the word I was looking for to describe this Photo. Beautiful composition. You couldn’t have found a better background for this little guy. He looks cuddly enough to give him a hug.

Beautiful picture! If you put a little derby on the spider’s head, it would look just like “Cousin It” from the Addams Family. :)

Thats my kind of closeup & shot. You need care, patience and a good eye. Most spiders in Ireland have eight eyes.Lovely to see such a different one.Might be scary to some, but beautiful. Thanks,Simon. I know that Pauline (my daughter) will do a good job.

Thanks all, John, out SA spiders also have eight, just a few are smaller and placed on the side of the head. I have seen Paulines site and I hope that she does paint this little one (only 8mmlong!!) and shows me the final product!!.. Have a great day

Fabulous macro, Simon! If a spider face can be cute, this one sure is. ;) The beautiful color of the red is such a perfect setting. Congratulations.
