Rodeo Beach

by Isabel Synnatschke

There are just a very few sea stacks at Rodeo Beach on the Marin Headlands north of San Francisco but I really enjoyed that place and loved watching how they were softly embraced by the ocean's surf at dusk.

Sweetly and serenely surreal! The colors are other worldly! Simply beautiful!

Hallo Isa!
Schön was neues von Dir hier zu sehen – wie immer einfach schön!
Ich bin grad auf dem Weg in die Schweiz um das Herbstlicht zu nutzen,
würd mich freuen wenn wir uns mal wieder irgendwo sehen,

I used to go there almost every weekend when I was young. ;) Love your shot.

Very good composition. However there is a technical problem: due to the use of a neutral density filter to make the sky darker, the part of the rocks above the horizon are under-exposed and completely black, whereas the lower part of the same rocks are well-exposed….

Amazing!

Shame those rocks in the distance have lost all detail. Sometimes the use, or overuse of an NG filter doesn’t do justice.

@Paul and Charlie: I did exposure bracketing and also some pictures without any graduated filters of the same composition. I might consider blending the images one day, but for now I left the picture the way it came out of the camera and did not even brighten up the darker parts. Somehow I really liked the black stacks and that’s why I left them like that.

Things do loose detail when they are further away, it looks more natural this way.
