Crashing Wave

by Leif Smith

It was a very windy day on the coast of California, a perfect day for waves. I wasn't planning on getting any good pictures, but I was sitting on a rock just enjoying the sun when I saw huge waves crashing on a rock off in the ocean. Perfect opportunity for a picture, and this was the result.

More painting, in terms of evocative, than photography-and all beautiful!

Best seen as large as you can get it on your screen. Great image. I can almost hear the noise of this wave as it hits the rocks.

Beautiful photo! As mentioned it looks sort of like a painting so beautiful and surreal.

Seize the Day…er moment! Great photo. I have some trouble with this type of photo though. I see images or faces and critters in waves and clouds on anything 3-D or 2-D with a lot of texture. Does anyone else see a “dog-like” creature on the left side of the rock and an “old man” like image to the right of the rocks? I not only see faces and critters in photos, I see it in textures such as paint, cloth, wrinkled paper, and other ordinary things. Maybe I should take photos of them to see what there really is to see. No, I don’t think I’m crazy. lol

You show remarkable talent and a mature eye. I love the ocean and I have seen many a photo of waves crashing on rock, but yours stands apart in capturing the oceans power and unpredictability. To my mind, unexpected things are happening in the wave action of your shot. Well done and congratulations.

I see the dog like creature and the old man (if what you are seeing is facing right as I look at it) it is a profile, no? I think this is such a bold picture. You can feel the strength coming alive in mother nature’s tempest of water.
