Burmese Fishermen Patterns
by David Lazar
Three fishermen on Inle Lake, Myanmar. The fisherman of this region have a unique rowing technique, where they stand on the stern on one leg and wrap the other leg around the oar allowing for fine paddle control. This way they can precisely steer around thick vegetation which often appears on the lake.
I wanted to capture this action of the Burmese Fishermen in an artistic manner while travelling to this region of Myanmar. A photographer friend I had made in the capital city, Yangon, told me to stay at a particular floating hotel where it would be possible to be close to these fishermen, and on the morning I shot this, I asked the men to form these positions.
Equipment: Nikon D700

Gorgeous. Sometimes the world conspires to make art all on its own. Then it just takes the presence of a skilled photographer with eyes to see, and this is what you get. Congratulations.

I like the image. It would have been lovely to see the fishermen in their natural positions. I’m not a fan of staged poses.
