Vietnamese lady

by Spencer Montero

This woman was walking down the street when she noticed a very peculiar man kneeling on the floor holding a huge camera to his face and acting a little strange. She stopped to look at what he was doing. The back lit street sign behind her served as a perfect background. She then heard a click and moved on. Hoi An, Vietnam, 2008.

Beautiful image, reminds me so much of the people of Vietnam. Love it.

I love her eyes (and very much like the whole picture to include the background as a frame of sorts) but her eyes are truly arresting. Great picture!

Very nice … the look in her eyes and the lines on her face makes you wonder what she’s seen and been through in her life.

Wonderful portrait of a lady that must have seen a lot in her life, you can see it in her eyes and in the lines of her face. You captured it so well, made an image that goes to ones soul. Thanks for sharing it.

Wait, so do you imply that she has never seen a camera before and then you talk about her as though she is a simple idiot. Then you take her photo without asking or even showing it to her afterwards. Just like going to the zoo eh? I may be up on my high horse here, but I really don’t admire those kind of tactics. It’s only polite to ask and extremely rude not to.

Regardless, good capture but she is certainly no looker. I’m not sure I could look at this for too long without feeling a bit queasy.

Dear Sparts
I am very sorry that you do not apppreciate the way I take photographs. Yes, I do think she had seen a camera before as I explained in my caption and although I always to try to ask for permission it is not always possible . Doing so would sometimes result in the moment being lost. If you had bothered to look at my website before criticising me, you would soon realise that I am a people photographer and it would be impossible to take the picture seen on my site without asking for permission in most cases. I have met many wonderful people and accepted their hospitality , sleeping in their homes sharing meals etc. I have many wonderful memories of these peole many of which have become friends. For you to say that I treat these people as Zoo animals is an insult. I do agree with you that it is a good capture but I do not agree that looking at her for too long would make anyone queasy. On the contrary I believe she is a wonderful looking woman. You may wish to appy you trade to glamour magazines instead.

‘She’ has captured you and everyone who is looking at ‘her’, and not the other way around.
The ‘background’ is Awareness present in her eyes that you missed by looking for the
‘perfect’ background. Thank you for being in her way that ‘you’ won’t forget…

Beautiful picture!

There is more life in that face than many of our smooth Western faces, my own included!

I love the contrast of the cool blue with her warm tones of her skin. Great shot

Wonderful image! I feel as if she is looking inquisitively deep into my soul.

It’s a beautiful portrait!
It is too bad that she didn’t get to see it, or have a print for her children…
@Sparta… The photographer certainly could have, and should have, worded his description with a bit more forethought and feeling.

However, she certainly is a ” looker “! Maybe not a buxom blonde as your comment implies… so if the beauty of life makes you queasy, please look elsewhere. {NO offense intended to buxom blondes..or young beautiful perfectly smooth Americans}

She has the beauty of a lifetime in the tone of her skin, in the lines of her face.
She has the beauty inside her to shine through in this exquisite environmental portrait.
Beauty is everywhere and not always, or even usually, in American perfection.
My guess is there were most likely language barriers that prevented a discussion of permission, or an exchange of email addresses.
Congratulations for POTD!
