That Magic Place

by Roberto Bertero

I have visited many times the Cheserys Lakes and Lac Blanc, located on the Aiguilles Rouges above Chamonix, France. Here the view on my favorite side of Mont Blanc massif (the French one) is truly unmatched. Thanks to the lovely evening light, this time I've tried to capture the pictorial soul of this magic place, through some slightly long exposures on the rippled surface of the water. The whole landscape looked like an impressionist painting.
Equipment: Canon 5D Mark II

I am often wondering about photography and, even more, about the overwhelming beauty of nature. I am conscious concerning the difficulties to render - in a single image - all the magnificence I see, on place, with my own eyes.... Because, in my opinion, one thing is to be able to see, love and experience reality, a completely different thing is to be able to "capture it", in the most suitable spot, moment and way... That's what I am trying to learn (in time, with patience). I am devoting a profound sense of discipline and responsibility in this achievement, as a due tribute to the wonderful places I am visiting and also because I can't stand the idea of wasted beauty. Sometimes I am successful in my efforts, other times not... In any case I feel as interacting with impermanence, somehow "freezing in time" landscapes that will never appear the same again, in a constant immense flux of no fixed nature.

The image is beautiful, but what really impressed me was the artist’s vision statement.

Thank you for capturing this place of beauty for those of us who will never have an opportunity to visit it. It brings a feeling of peace just looking at it.

Just heavenly. I love the way the clouds seem to “hug” the mountains and the richness of the colors of the sunrise/sunset. Beautiful job :)

You have done what you set out to do, Roberto, but no beauty is “ever wasted “.

This image will live forever, even though we do not see it again exactly as it is now.
There are many such glimpes of “take your breath away ” wonder.
The colours are superb, the composition set off by the mountain itself.
Thank you for sharing this part of your world.

Beautiful work, you captured just the right light at the right time. Sweet!! I also find it interesting that the camera I use is named after that French mountain, Chamonix.
