Prayer Flags and Monastery

by David Lazar

3000 meters high up in the Himalayan Mountains sits the Tigers Nest Monastery (or Taktsang Palphug). Located near the city of Paro in the Kingdom of Bhutan, I hiked up into the mountains to find this sacred Buddhist temple complex perched on the edge of a cliff. I was also fortunate to enter inside the Monastery, which was originally built in 1692.

This is the finest image I’ve ever seen of Tiger’s Nest Monastery! Stunning work! The spectacular light, perfectly framed by the blowing prayer flags really brings this place alive. Congratulations!

wow…. this looks like a painting or out of a dream!

Riot of color-more fever dream than still image. Great!

Wonderful light and composition – just magical.

I echo the dream idea. It is almost surreal. Really great emotional image.

Thanks Michael and everyone else. Jim – it’s funny but i’ve never associated the word ‘emotional’ with a landscape image before. Only portraiture. That’s really interesting.

I would also use the word emotional especially for the ones who follow Budhism!
I would also use the word “stunning”!!!

Incredibly well done! One can ‘see’ the wind in the mountains. Surreal lighting and composition, like something out of an oriental fantasy.

Spectacular shot David!!! The color and how did they ever build it on a mountain. It looks like it was dropped there. Thanks for sharing. God Bless

I find the prayer flag utterly distracting in what would have otherwise been a very memorable image. Maybe it is just me. Did you also take images where the flag was left out?
