Fairy Bonsai
by Adam Gibbs
I came across the delightful scene while driving past Fairy Lake near Port Renfrew. I am sure that any photographer that has passed this spot couldn't resist photographing this fascinating little bonsai conifer growing out of an old mossy stump.

Elegantly ethereal-seems to be more gossamer and prayers than actual branches and leaves. Just wonderful!

That is an incredibly beautiful photo! And, as one who has attempted to grow bonsai, and incredibly beautiful bonsai.

Great shot. Alot of people, including myself would have wanted to get the reflection of the backround in the lake, but by shotting in a lower fstop and blurring the backround your eye goes right to the subject. Great shot and lesson.

Saw a scene like this at Kandersteg back in the 50s. Couple of tiny trees and some ferns, Just like this. Before real cameras. Never forgot the image.Thank you so much!

Gorgeous, and nice bokeh! I particularly like that it’s not taken in some exotic location, so very achievable for most of us. Good eye.

I love this image. Notice how the stump and the reflection make a perfect heart shape.

Just beautiful. I never ceases to amaze me where anyone can find life – even the end of an old stump. Gorgeous colors and I love the reflections in the lake that seem to envelope the tree.
Deborah
Absolutely Gorgeous!

Beautiful Adam!

Gorgeous! I passed this little tree in July! I did stop, but only had my G12 with me so didn’t get anything quite as impressive as this!

I found a stunted Ponderosa pine growing from a rounded boulder of Entrada sandstone in Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park and also felt that any photographer passing by would have to stop and take a picture, but I’ve never seen anyone else’s image. Sometimes our “eye” is pretty private.
