Pet Buffalo
by David Lazar
Two brothers in rural Myanmar (Burma) sit on the back of one of the buffaloes owned by their family. They ride on the back of them when they take them out to the fields for work. On this morning, these two boys were coming back in from the fields, and then got ready to go to school on a shared bike. Their older brother at 15 has already left school and decided to be a worker on the land. Who knows what the future will hold for these two boys. Not all children are so lucky to have the option to go to school in rural parts of the country.
The rings on their faces is from thanaka paste, which is popular to wear in Myanmar for skin protection and individuality.
Equipment: Nikon D700

Perfect lighting in this shot David, giving the image lots of depth. I almost feel like I’m standing there too.

Jim normally they tie rope through its nostrils and use another rope to steer it in that way… this one has been let untied.

Light is simply awesome. I guess Burma would be a nice place for photographers.

Lovely light and great story. Its a shame that all children can’t go to school all over the world. Education is so important, but so is capturing and sharing this information with everyone.

Great picture to show kids who get driven to and from school on a daily basis!

Marvelous image. Congrats on POTD.

Beautiful photograph. The light is lovely and the colours are spectacular. I love the emotional connection of the brothers..the protective arm around the younger brother, so high up on the buffalo. I also like the rings. I wish that American children were encouraged to show their individuality.
Congratulations for POTD!
