Life with the Sea

by Farhan

Dakhinpara is a small village of Teknaf under Cox’s Bazar district. It’s a beautiful village with hills, Naf River, sea shore! The world’s largest sea beach starts from here. Even the one and only coral island of Bangladesh “Saint martin” is visible from here if the sky is clear. But people over here live through much hardship. Life doesn’t show any mercy to anyone living here. They have to live under the constant threat of storms. Small children like her collect baby shrimps for living. The shrimps are so tiny that it’s hardly visible in naked eye. They sell 100 baby shrimps for less than 1$! Someone told me that my photography represents my country. So I try to avoid negative pictures. But in sometime u just cannot deny the truth.

It’s difficult to comprehend hardship in this lovely shot, yet you have given us both sides of the story behind it. Thank you for both.

Here in the US we think of the beach primarily as a fun place to go for pleasure and vacation.
This interesting photo reminds us that we should be thankful for seafood and to those how toll daily to make it available. It never occurred to me that children were part of this equation. Thanks for giving us a real life lesson.
