Golden Leap
by Etienne Oosthuizen
We had this troop of baboons roosting close to camp and each morning before they ventured out to forage the adults would sit and warm up in the early morning sunlight. I had planned to spend the early hours of sunlight with them, to capture the internal politics that come with a every troop of baboons. I positioned my self, so I would take back lit images and waited for the action to start. I noticed this one female sitting on a termite mound she had her youngster with her. I reasoned that little things warm up quicker than big things, so anticipating that the young baboons to get active soon. I shifted my camera to focus on them. Soon they were jumping and playing in the early morning light. I photographed a moment when one youngster jumped to a tree.

I am a professional guide with an invaluable enthusiasm for wildlife photography. A born and bred Zimbabwean and having grown up on a tobacco farm, I have always been exposed to the great outdoors. My guiding career started at an early age, with canoeing trips down the Zambezi during my school holidays. Now with more than 10 years experience in 5 countries and with many hours spent behind a camera.
I enjoy epic wildlife photography, those moments that just knock your socks off and you left in awe, hoping that you managed to capture that moment so to be able to share it with the World!
I now lead photographic safaris to the wild places in Africa, to photograph unique animals and behaviour, join me on a safari ...
