Water Hole

by Andre Goncalves

When the dam is full of water, it drains through that hole. The place is incredible and it's not well known by the population. Alentejo, Portugal
Equipment: Canon 5D mark II + Canon 16-35mm f/2.8 II

I like your title! I also like the symmetry broken by the unbalanced sky

How bizzare! It doesn’t look real!

With the interesting colors you have used this looks like something out of a sci-fi movie.

Marvelous, abstract-looking image! I thought it was manipulated or a composite – so glad you gave an explanation. Great colors and well shot. Congratulations.

wow! can’t believe this POTD. u must have scouted this over and over to get just such a perfect picture! – the sky, the tranquil water, the moment when the dam was low…. thank you!

these make a fantastic sound when the reservoir is overflowing. the correct name for them is “glory hole”, no idea why though.

P.S. There is a truth in this shot that screams to the soul–God’s waterscapes are far better. Water and concrete are not meant to be knitted together. This is a great picture of man’s attempt to manipulate and control his lot in a fallen world.

it is called a morning glory spillway or “glory hole” for short.
It is named after the flower of the same shape. amazing photo

This looks unreal, like it is floating. Good work.

At first glance this looked like something created in a 3D modelling program, very interesting shapes and colours.

Where is this overflow rerouted to and just how far is this sent? Seems very unusual and unique.
An excellent photo that leaves me with many questions…like who designed it, etc…
Thank you for sharing.
