Lunch?

by Lunch? by Richard Peters

We spent two fantastic days watching the Puffins fly past with beaks full of sand eels to feed the young. Many of the puffins would aim straight for their burrows but some would stand on the rocks with their catch. This one in particular had a good haul, and it turned and looked straight down my lens just as the sun broke from behind the clouds, giving a hint of side light. I fired a couple of shots before the puffin flew off. Where to focus was key here, so I aimed at the top of the beak where it joins the black feathers, in order to get the eyes sharp and have a little of the depth of field reach out to the eels near the back of the beak.
Equipment: Nikon D7000, 600 VR + 1.4x TC

He’s a ‘tidy’ hunter with the eels on either side, brilliant shot!
Perhaps Richard did this shoot in Newfoundland, Jen. These wonderful puffins are numerous here.
