I presume we are looking at sea kelp entangled with nylon rope; showing that man’s rubbish contaminates the most pristine of places.

I don’t think that’s nylon rope. Kelp also has that rope like look to it. Here is a sample image I just pulled off Google.

Oh and btw, nice capture Dirk. I have some lovely shots from the Oregon Coast myself. None as nice as this though.
