Sun Flowers

by Marc Adamus

After shooting Washington's colorful Columbia Hills many times before, I was looking for something of a new perspective. Experimenting with my ultra-wide angle lens, I decided to try a dramatic near/far composition utilizing images blended together from multiple focal points, allowing me a sharp focus from only a few inches away to infinity once the exposures were merged in processing. These blending techniques allowed me to overcome the technical limitations of any one lens and combined with dramatic skies and lighting that evening gave me the deep, colorful image I wanted even with only a few flowers in bloom on this year. Tech: Canon 1Ds III, Nikon 14-24mm with V3 adapter at 16mm, no filters, 4 exposures at f/16 and 1/2 second blended for foreground and 1 exposure at f/16 and 1/20 second for sky.
Equipment: Canon 1Ds III, Nikon 14-24 lens

Big fan of yours Marc and this image is another stellar addition to your ever expanding body of quality work. Interesting combination of your Canon camera and one of my favorite Nikon lenses! Question: not sure i understand the “blending” aspect. Is this an HDR image? Or did you use a different technique to combine these images?

29th May 2011 at 6:25 pm
