Drei Zinnen
by Werner Van Steen
My experience from over 12 years is that photographing the European Alps can be very frustrating especially when you want to capture a subject at sunset. This is due to the very unstable weather. On one hand it is good because it brings in snow at very low altitudes compared to other mountain regions in the world and I always like it when a fresh dust of snow is present on the mountain. For this picture, I have tried my luck many times over a couple of years. Even two weeks before I made it, everything looked great on a couple of days until clouds always blocked the warm light of the sunset... The same thing happened before I took this one but luckily that evening, the clouds dissapeared as quickly as they came. I was only too happy to finish this project ! I used a remote trigger to take this picture of myself.
Equipment: Canon EOS 1Ds MkIII, 24-70mm/f2.8 L lens + Really Right Stuff panorama kit
Werner Van Steen
After a first visit to Alaska in 1998, Werner decided to take up nature and wildlife photography after teaching himself the techniques, learning from books and practising on his own. Not long after, World Wildlife Fund Belgium used his pictures for calendars and greeting cards and Werner was invited for numerous expositions. In 2007, he got a Highly commended image in the BBC Wildlife Photographer of the Year contest. As a former free climbing champion, he most of all loves to photograph mountains but Werner can be found travelling all over the world in search for various nature subjects under the best light...

Werner,
Was is er mooier dan de bergen en jij slaagt erin met deze foto om een breed publiek hiervan te overtuigen. Waar is de tijd dat ik deze pieken beklom. Bedankt voor de trigger voor deze aangename flashback.
