Soberanes Creek
by Elijah Hassler
Taken during an early morning hike into Big Sur's mystical Soberanes Canyon. Garrapata State Park, California.
Equipment: Canon EOS 5D

I've been a photo-fanatic for years and love all the freedom of digital. I'm currently shooting with a first generation Canon EOS 5D, and take pride in making images without the use of color filters and only very limited use of photo editing software. Lately I do most of my work along California's spectacular central coast.

Oh my goodness! Is this from a fairytale or a wooded trail in heaven?
Jen
How do you get the water to look like that???
Bill McFall
I’ve hiked this trail and your photograph definitely does it justice. What a fantastic composition with just the right exposure and blurring of the water. Great work Elijah!

What a beautiful shot, Elijah. I miss Bir Sur so much, the Redwoods, ocean but mostly the mountains! Thanks for reminding me how wonderful my childhood was!!!

I like the colors. They are so fresh and bright. And I admire this park.

great shot, did you use any filters for that
Andrew
I love to see pictures when water looks real, reflecting, cold… Filters are good, but some of them remove a lot of reality from the shot. Its just my humble opinion. Its a great shot but not my taste because water doesn’t seem real. Its almost like every photographer at some point has to use this filter and considers it like its some kind of a milestone to do it. Sorry for criticism you probably guessed I am not a fan of what this filter does to water. For some reason water is a big deal to me. If it doesn’t look real – it spoils my impression about the whole shot.

Quite pretty, love the colors.

Excellent image Elijah. Perfect composition, detail and beautiful, mystical effect with the water. As a fellow photographer, we know how much work and effort goes into composing a beautiful piece of art. The criticism I see here adds absolutely no value whatsoever to this forum and your wonderful achievement. Congratulations and well deserved!

Superb light, color and composition in your wonderful image. And your blurring of the water adds so much to the great feel.

Beautiful image and use of slow shutter speed creating the milky stream flow….
My only nit … is the strong blue color cast of the water … I would desaturate the blue
to show the natural color of the stream

The colors are so rich and luminous – almost looks like a painting. Lovely!
