Ring of Fire
by Max
I have so many shots of this area that it has been an inner struggle for me to pick just one. After narrowing it down to a 10 stop at sunset vs. this night time shot, I chose this one. There is just such a strange marriage of events that slaps the face of reality. The scene was very well lit despite the fact that the sun had set about 20 minutes prior to this. There is an uncanny effervescent glow that stretched across the horizon. City and pier lights warmed up for the night shift. Camera detail is really crazy. You can see the traffic lights all the way in the background change from red to green. The moon decided to make an appearance and the flowers had enough light from the houses behind me and a pathway to the left. The glow was faint to the naked eye but was perfect for the effect I wanted. The clouds even look peculiar like little twisters. There's also a strange sheen on the water. Strange stuff.

This is a superb image, but were the blazes is it? I really really hate seeing brilliant landscape photos when the publisher doesn’t tell me where they were taken!

incredible photo, being a S Ca. person, I also wonder where it was taken. Captures the land, sea and sky. What an amazing photo. I have seen parts – sky, sea……….. but not put together like this.
My heart aches at the beauty.

it must be looking to La Jolla from Del Mar. Right?

Beautiful, again, where is it? I have seen sunsets in California looking west and the ocean in front of me, like in a cove around Avila Beach or San Luis Obispo.

I, too, would like to know where this amazing picture was taken. It is frustrating to try to picture in my mind the scene, and not know where to place it.

I had no idea I was featured here. Thanks so much for the compliments everyone! Very sorry for the late reply but this was taken in La Jolla, CA. The iconic structure is Scripps Pier, first made famous by legendary Ansel Adams in his Fiat Lux collection. I have a few different shots from this series which is absolutely my favorite place in all of San Diego county. It is sincerely humbling to see such kind comments and, once again, thank you all

Congrats again Max. That is one sweet shot!
