Cold Beauty

by Guy Tal

Entering the subway after a snow storm and several days of below-freezing temperatures is not an easy undertaking. Once there, though, the beauty and solitude of this remote place is an experience like few others. Zion National Park, Utah.
Equipment: Canon 5D Mk II

I am a photographer, writer, and naturalist living and working in the Colorado Plateau - a scenic and diverse desert region of the western United States spanning an area larger than most countries and states. Over the years, this magical and endangered landscape had not only been my home but also my sanctuary and my main source of inspiration. It is my goal as a person, as a writer, and as an artist, to promote and to share its wild beauty, and advocate for its preservation. It is a place like no other - a treasure for the soul that future generations deserve to experience in its wild state as we have been privileged to.

Stunning shot Guy. It makes a huge difference to see it in frozen winter conditions compared to the more often seen summer conditions. It was well worth your effort of getting there and capturing it in such a rare way with such a strong forground elements.

Guy,
this is an outstanding shot of this beautiful location and the first one I ever saw with ice.
It must have been very slippery going there as it is already in summertime.
The light is just perfect as is the composition, congrats on this well deserved POTD!

I’ve been to Zion Natl. Park in Utah…don’t recall anything like this. Can’t imagine it looking so different that I cannot recall some similarity.
It sure is spectacular…congratulations on your efforts.

Perfect, simply perfect.

As always Guy, a day late and a few bucks short. This is a spectacular shot and especially considering the effort and hassles to endure along the way. Kudos for making it down there!
