The layers of sedimentary rock look like hair in the foreground. Plus I love how the background is in shadow. What time of year was this photo taken Justin?

Thanks Bill! I took this image on Jan. 21st of this year.

Justin, where is this located? US or other? I’ve never heard of this place I’m sure – or is it a secret? Great shot though, the lighting is excellent!

Trying not to “hate ya cause I ain’t ya.” This is spectacular and I am happy that someone with your skill was there to capture the opportunity. Of course the foreground is photolicious, but I really like that detail is evident just behind and at the top of the image. Not to state the obvious, but it gives great context and implies an expanse that I just can’t fathom from here under the piles of snow that just landed on our heads. Makes me feel like I was standing right there. A mini-vacation from this endless winter…

I had to google this cause I wanted to know where it’s at too. Looks like it’s in Paria Canyon-Vermillion Cliffs Wilderness, Arizona. Awesome shot. I think I’ll add this to my list for this summer’s trip to Arizona and Utah!

Photos of the wave have become a popular stock background provided by computer makers (Apple) and smartphones. None of them come close to the composition and lighting in your photo- truly a photo of a lifetime. Thanks for entering the contest and sharing with the rest of us!

Thanks for your comments everyone!

This image is located in the Coyote Buttes North region of the Arizona / Utah border. You need a permit to get to “The Wave”. It is extremely competitive and it’s a great idea to put in for an online permit 4 months in advance.
