The Clearing
by Marc Adamus
The photograph is from near my campsite on the south ridge of Oregon's Three Fingered Jack peak. It's a long day or two days backpacking to reach it. A storm was clearing and there I was, at sunset, sitting just above the clouds on my own mountain island in the sky, not another soul for miles.
Equipment: 5D II, Nikon 14-24 lens at 20mm, no filters

What a fabulously beautiful shot. And what an experience to go with it. The ‘wilderness feeling’ is unique, one that you carry around inside for the rest of your life. I’m not surprised at all that you love it so much.

Beautiful light. I also like the way my eye is directed firstly left to the solitary tree, then right to more trees, then up the mountain to the top and that beautiful sky. Very well thought out composition. Big congrats!

Marc thank you for your sharing such awsome beauty. All I could relate to when looking at it.. was my experiences snow skiing Sugarloaf in Maine after a fresh coat of snow on the mountain. I would stop at the first mogel and oversee the snow covered trees the mountains in the background, the horizon where the blue sky met the tree tops…all of it taking my breath away. Not a sound to be heard all muffled by the fresh snow…only peace, beauty and fresh air.
You don’t need my inexperience in photography to tell you how great the photo is; however, I will let you know how much I enjoy looking at it.
