Storm Veil

Waimea Canyon on the island of Kauai is a spectacular site at any time of day, but this sunrise proved to be the most dramatic I witnessed during several days on the island. I found an interesting vantage point on the lip of the canyon and awaited the sunrise. Storm clouds obscured the 1st rays of light, but shortly thereafter the sun broke through an opening in the clouds, illuminating the vibrant colors of the canyon. I needed 2 exposures, which were then blended in post processing to capture the full range of brightness. A 2 stop grad ND filter was used on the sky exposure to help preserve detail.
