Autumn Oaks & Charred Snags

by Bret Edge

The La Sal Mountains tower over the Spanish Valley and Moab, Utah. Massive groves of aspen trees and gambel oaks cover the mountain in brilliant hues during autumn. The area in this photo was ravaged by a wildfire two years ago, as evidenced by the charred snags. New growth of gambel oaks is slowly erasing any evidence of the fire with their colorful autumn leaves.

Wow is all I can say as I look at this photo, Bret. I am nobody in particular born and live in Maine lived in upstate NY for 27 years, love to draw, enjoy museums such as Kodak in Rochester, NY and have seen many photos online. Yet, you have captured how nature restores its original beauty and the transition. You have to feel such a sense of satisfaction when you print out the results….congratulations. I can’t get over how the charred snags bring the whole photo to life.

It is stunning shot, and spectacular with vibrant colour. It looks like forest fire, even though it has the marks of fire burn the land resurrected back. No words to describe it. I call it “GOD’S PAINTBRUSH” Thanks for sharing such a lovely picture.

Reminds me of the Biblical burining bush story. Great backlighting and vibrant colors. The combo of diagonal colors and vertical trunks makes for a nice mix. Sweet shot!
