Mountains and Khurpas
by Bjorn Billing
Khurpa is a Balti word, meaning porter. The Khurpas of Pakistan can be described as an equivalent to the better known Sherpas in Nepal, working hard on high altitude in the Karakoram mountain range. In this picture a group of Khurpas is approaching Ali Camp, not far from K2.
