Manatee
by Alastair Pollock
This shot was taken at Crystal River in Florida USA. The manatees were surprisingly relaxed with me coming in close. The younger manatees and babies frequently came in an checked me out (not sure if they were looking at their own reflection in my dome port).
This was shot a 7am.

I didn’t know they had algae on their backs; I would love to see a baby manatee.

Nice shot! I remember Crystal River water being crystal clear indeed but extremely cold…

It may feel cold to you, but manatees cannot survive in water less than 65-68ยบ. Crystal River maintains a pretty constant temperature that is safe for them. Gorgeous picture Mr Pollock.
The manatees have been gone from most canals in my area since the beginning of December. Most unusual, but the temperature did plummet quite dramatically. Cannot wait for them to come back home!
