Ice Nebula
by John Mumaw
A recent hike in White Canyon, Utah revealed about a half dozen of these unique ruptures in the frozen creek bed. This one had the nicest 'jewels' (air bubbles trapped under clear ice).

At first I thought this was an aerial photo until I looked more closely. The form of the cracked ice reminds me of a nerve axon. Thank you John for sharing your vision with us.

Nature always finds a way to show it’s unique beauty.

The artist’s eye…to see what others might well overlook. This is, indeed, other worldly, and then the tiny leaf in the lower right hand corner brings the viewer back to earth. Wonderful subtlety.

as kids we used to make these by throwing rocks into puddles or ponds, the rock would leave a trail of bubbles in the middle.

It looks like a nerve cell with ganglia. Which I find quite interesting and beautiful Thank you for sharing it

Very cool shot! I also like the inclusion of the leaf as it gives a sense of scale. From the thumbnail I was first thinking Yellowstone from the air!
