Folding Lava

by Justin Reznick

Hawaii was all about one thing - Lava. Lava entering the sea, lava plumes, lava breakouts, lava patterns. I loved every second of it. This image was taken during the beginning of a new breakout. That breakout has spread tremendously and has already burned down a house and more roads. It's incredible how much that area changes day to day.

Such a simple, yet striking image. I recently visited Hawaii but was on Maui so no laval flow for me. But back to this image, really quite stunning.

Awesome picture, Justin. I’ve never seen a close-up shot of this kind, truly amazing.

This fascinating image really deserves the POD, congrats!
I love the way you captured the slightly cooled black crust that cracks again by the movement of the lava giving insight to the glowing interior of molten lava. Just gorgeous!

I’m not a photographer… so I dunno how much the colours are “real” and how much not…

It looks like modeling dough but I guess you would get your hands burnt if you tried to do anything with it.

Excellent shot of something most of us will never see in real life.

Fantastic picture! I know it’s lava but I thought of knitting wool when I saw it.

Amazing shot. Fantastic that you were able to get so much detail in the lava.
Where was this in Hawaii?

for some reason, this image brings to mind the movie “The Stoning of Soraya M”

a close up of something that we have to look at, even though we are not sure if we understand…
