Don’t you love it when they just stand there and pose for you? Adorable creature, superb photo, love the moss on the bark, the textures and the clarity in the foreground, the blurring of colour in the background. Congrats!
Nancy
Perfect shot–great shallow depth of field, wonderful focus and great detail. Love it!

A wonderful shot indeed. Great use of shallow depth of field and a lovely smooth bokeh. You have some very good images over at Flickr which prove you are an accomplished photographer.

How can a creature like this be real, and how did you ever make such an amazing capture! Thank you for making my day!

I love these little guys, but have never seen one in the wild! This is a spectacular shot! Congratulations!
Alex
I do not think it’s fair not to mention that this is a captive subject, that Megan did not photograph this bird in the wild.
Megan Lorenz
Sorry that you felt deceived Alex. I never hide how I get any of my shots. This owl was at a raptor rehab after being hit by a car in 2008 and losing the sight in one eye. (making it impossible for her ever to be released.)
If you don’t consider this “real” photography….feel free to have a look at my photostream which does have many wild saw-whets and other owls. Personally I believe that any photo that brings about an appreciation of a species or education of the threats that they face in the wild has done it’s job.
