Morning Mantis
by Paul Marcellini
A macro image of this praying mantis using a fisheye lens and off-camera flash. A different perspective for macro that really offers a unique view of smaller creatures. Everglades National Park.
Equipment: Canon 7d, Tokina 10-17, off-camera flash

Great shot! I thought i am glancing on the page of National Geographic when i first saw your photo… I guess you will give me some tips on how to upload photo to EarthShots via Facebook or Email. Got some photos here to share but i don’t know how to upload because all i see are webpages. Congratulations!

Well thought out; I have used this kind of method myself, well done.

Hi!
This is a great image, but I find something strange on it – how is it possible that you have used that fisheye lens and the sun is so big? To my eyes this image is made by two diferent pictures…

Excellent use of your off camera lighting! Looks like natural light, even thought the sun is rising (or setting) behind the Mantis….looks like natural, available light.
Nice work, keep it up.
