Luang Namtha Boys
by Anthon Jackson
Boys playing near a river in northern Laos
Equipment: Nikon D80
Anthon Jackson
After finishing university (in an unrelated field), I made two of the most important purchases of my life: a Nikon D80 and a one-way ticket to India. At the time I had US$400 and a vague plan to explore Asia and the Middle East. Two years later, I have yet to return home. Through a long series of odd jobs, from writing how-to articles online to teaching English in China to playing Santa Claus in Cairo, I've learned how to survive on the road in order to support my favorite hobby: photography. Although it's a little banged up, I've still got my Nikon D80 and the will to keep traveling for years to come. Although I've bought very little in my travels, I feel lucky to have thousands of souvenirs in the form of beautiful people and landscapes frozen in my store of photos.
