Under the Rising Moon

by Jim Patterson

Here is a shot from my brief visit to Joshua Tree back in December. For this image, I used a white LED flashlight to light paint the rocks. Nikon D300 Tokina 10-17mm fisheye @ 10mm 30 sec @ f8, ISO 800 White LED flashlight for light painting

what an amazing picture!
it’s almost like a dinosaur grazing or resting its head!

Anyone else see the goose head and neck in that rock? AWESOME!

The stars here are amazingly crisp for a 30 second exposure. I love the way you maintained the foreground shadows in the rocks.

Amazing picture — well done! Have to say, like objects in the clouds, my first split-second impression was of a goose… body on the left, neck arching over with the head on the ground — even discoloration in the rock for the eyes.

Beautiful photo. The rock formation looks like a duck bent down.
