Nowhere To Go

by Robert

2 hours toward the NW of Kitwe, direction Congo, near the source of the Zambezi River, lies a chimp sanctuary called Chimfunshi. A dedicated mother/daughter couple, with the assisance of a few Zambians, look after around 120 chimps from all around the world. All are discarded pets, old circus animals and abused animal...s that have been taken in looked after. With no government funding, as chimps aren't indigenous to Zambia, they rely on donations, grants and sponsorships from people and businesses. The 'Chimp Walk' is by far the highlight of your visit and their main source of income.

Having grown up with cameras in my family, I naturally, was drawn to photography as well. As a geologist by profession, I get to travel and visit many beautiful and wonderful places, always with my camera in tow.

He has managed to feel his sadness in my heart.
The black and white complete the message brilliantly.
Fabulous

That’s a fantastic portrait. There seems to be no difference between us and them.
Wonderful story.

Wonderful portrait and thanks for the info, its wonderful that people just dedicate their lives to helping a fellow creature.

This is a sad picture but rightly so; we all choose in life; are we like the cruel owners or the compassionate carers? With 120 animals on hand it seems to me that the cruel owners are in the majority.

The use of black and white suggests an air of desolation, but this chimp hints a satisfaction in knowing he is taken care of.

Very poignant photo, great color balance, etc., My only wish is that, since he provides the info on no government funding, etc., they rely on donations, he would have provided info on where donations could have been sent, the pic definitely is worthy of drawing support.

I think this a a classic example of our “complete control”, and thus will result in our demise.

Hey Rob, seems your hard work has paid off! ;-)
The chimp’s face is FULL of emotion.. and as sad or innocent as he seems, I’m sure he’s full of confidence, mischief and intelligence!
