Nice texture and unusual shaped rocks

Nice composition, but it leaves me wishing for something besides lichens to give it a sense of scale.

This place always fascinates me.

Love it! An artist’s handiwork. Where is “this place”?

Beautiful picture; fine detail.

A ‘giant’ step for you as well with this discovery. I wish you had given us some info. on the place; obviously Pauline is familiar.

This is called “the Giant’s Causeway” in Northern Ireland. It is a naturally occurring rock formation, something to do with Basalt and a volcano, I am no geologist
Fascinating place. They used these rocks as a background for one section of the computer game “Myst” that was so popular a few years back. It looks like something from another world. The ocean drives right up against these rocks, making for some really neat tide pools, and fascinating “wave” shots.

Its the Giants Causeway in Co. Antrim Northern Ireland. One of the most beautiful stretches of coastline in the world. Have a look. Type causeway coast into google images. I live in Sydney, Australia now, but spent many summers up the coast. 45mins from belfast and it runs for about 60 miles.

Giants Causeway as it says. County antrim, Northern Ireland. Somewhere I always fancied visiting. Great shot!!

From Wikipedia:The Giant’s Causeway (Irish: Clochán an Aifir or Clochán na bhFómharach)[1] is an area of about 40,000 interlocking basalt columns, the result of an ancient volcanic eruption. It is located in County Antrim, on the northeast coast of Northern Ireland, about two miles (3 km) north of the town of Bushmills.

Thanks for the info..great image!

A similar site is Devil’s Postpile in California. I read that these basalt columns are Nature’s way of trying to achieve the perfect shape–a circle. Looks like a petrified giant beehive–fascinating texture!
