Kingfishers

by Dennis Rademaker

My heart beats faster everytime I think back of the day this occured right infront of my nose. It all started by setting up my blind which I use to conceal myself for the wildlife. 10 minutes after setting up the blind the female Kingfisher flew down onto the branch which overhangs the water. About 30 seconds later the male Kingfisher came onto the branch aswell and he had brought a nice meal for his "wife"! After giving her the fish the female Kingfisher signaled the male that she was ready for mating and WHOOP there they go! Light circumstances were not great, I had to shoot this picture with the 40D +500mm f/4L at f/5 and ISO 800. I did my best to get rid of the noise as much as possible. But fortunatly the picture came out better as I expected!

Amazing. Great description. I sure hope this was not the only shot you took. Have you posted the series somewhere on the web for us (and the world) to admire?

Well done, what a shot, these are beautiful creatures but normally so fast it is virtually impossible to photograph them.

Great photo of my favourite bird. I specialised in looking after these fabulous birds when I was a wildlife carer. I had 2 who survived injures but couldn’t be released, so they were companion birds to other birds in care. They were great to watch when other birds came in injured, these little guys made them feel at home and less stressed.
