Wind and Light

by Marc Adamus

A lot of photos out there from the ol' Mesquite Dunes in Death Valley. The best time to go is usually AFTER windy conditions, as there's no footprints. On this morning, however, I awoke to blowing and drifting conditions. I put on a ski mask I had with me and gave it a go anyway. It wasn't that bad, except somehow I'd gotten a bit too close to a beehive in a nearby Creosote bush and, amazingly undeterred, they chased me right into the dunes a hundred or two yards away. I thought I'd lost them by the time I was on the windy ridges but they kept popping up again during lulls in the breeze. I only fired off a couple shots of the conditions, but I really liked the way they turned out. It's not every morning you get to shoot in a sandstorm while being attacked by bees :-)
Equipment: Canon 1Ds III, 290mm, 1/400 at f/18, ISO 400.

Another truly amazing capture Marc … I love the soft curves of the foreground against the harder edges of the mountains in the distance … Not to mention the great colors and overall feel of this capture

Unusual view love those textures- what some people have to go through for the sake of their art-huh.

Death Valley is one of my favorite places–and this is truly a breathtaking shot! Photographers will suffer such extreme conditions to capture a good shot–and I’m so glad you do!
