The Golden Rock

by David Lazar

Pilgrims at the Golden Rock, Myanmar, one of Buddhisms holiest sites. It is said that underneath the gold leaf plated boulder there is a single Buddha hair, miraculously balancing it.

That’s amazing that it is balanced.

Beautiful image and fascinating story–I’ve never heard of this shrine before. Now I have yet another research subject thanks to POTD. This is such an informative website–world travel, history, geology,……so much to learn.

Gorgeous shot, thanks for sharing. Also LOVE your website and your Mayanmar gallery, gobbsmackingly beautiful shots. Good to see little monks kicking up their heels and being little boys. You let the monks show themselves as human and present as well as exquisitely beautiful children, which is a great transformation from the normally easthetic, other-worldly image. Thanks again.

I’m not sure abut Budda’s hair but I guess I wouldn’t be standing underneath it for too long. I have never seen this before, thanks for sharing.
