About 5 minutes after the Space Shuttle Discovery took off, I was able to capture the orbiter before it dipped below the horizon on its journey to the International Space Station. This was shortly after finishing a long 264 second exposure of the launch itself. I can honestly say that if I would have gone to a launch over 20 years ago when I first got to Florida, I probably would not have missed another. If you haven't experienced a launch in person, you don't know what you are missing! Settings: f5.6, ISO 200, 10 seconds @ 15mm
Equipment: Canon EOS 7D

What a great shot and the colours are wonderful too.

Beautiful. And perhaps even more so, since that was the last launch ever. The shuttle program is ended, never more to rise…

Great image Danny! I also attended the “night” launch of space shuttle Endeavour on March 11th 2008. It was great!! My image was also posted here on EarthShots!

Fantastic image! To think there are people aboard flying through space. I worked at NASA as a Technical Writer for a while, but I never went to a launch.
