Indian Paintbrush
by Scott Moss
This time of year brings great selections of Indian Paintbrush right along the highways. The full moon just added the perfect touch.

Hobbist Photographer from Idaho. I live about 100 miles from Yellowstone National Park and right in the middle of fly-fishing heaven. It is most difficult to chose where to head each morning with so much beauty so close.

I like it a lot

This is lovely but perhaps if you had one of the flowers in focus it would have been even better.

I agree with Pauline having at least one flower especially the one from the the end is crucial. I do however like the fact that the moon is not central.

Interesting name. Did native Americans actually use them for painting their face and body before war or ceremonies?

I disagree with the comments about focus–your shallow DOF is right on, and I don’t have any problems with the foreground being out of focus. In fact, it’s one of my favorite effects when shooting a big patch of flowers! Was the moon added as a double exposure in camera or in post?
Scott
It was added in post. I had focused on the moon then took the shot focused on the flowers. I had left the front flowers out of focus for effect. I liked this approach better for mood.
